They found it difficult to find the quality that they wanted to sell to their customers. They decided that during the winter months when the fruit market was closed that they would grow their own. D. Owen and Kathleen Taylor were the owners at that time and with the help of their son, Donald, a small 50-foot structure and a variety of annuals and vegetables were grown to be resold. The Taylor family realized that they enjoyed the greenhouse business and within a few years, decided to sell the fruit market. More greenhouse structures were added. By the 1980's, TAYLOR'S GREENHOUSE had 4500 sq. ft. of growing space. Many plants were sold wholesale. More greenhouses were added in the mid 80's.
In 1992, D. Owen and Kathleen decided to retire. Donald and his wife, Linda, took over the business. With 1/2 acre of production space, it was time to expand. Retail business was growing, and they felt the need to grow with it! After much research, ground was broken for a gutter connected greenhouse in 1994. The greenhouses expansion project was a large one. The final structure would encompass one acre. Construction was done in three phases, 1994, 1996 and completion in 2000. Once completed, the structure was given the name "OZ." The next expansion occurred in 2005 with a new, energy efficient growing facility for germinating seeds with under-bench heat, modulating boilers, and roof venting.
In 2013, Linda and Donald decided it was time to pass the torch to Kurt and Kent. Many of our customers have watched them grow from young children to present day.
